In 2013, I joined an ongoing research project investigating herbal supplementation trends in Hispanic communities across the Denver-Metro area. Once trends were confirmed, a closer look at possible contaminates and side effects were considered, as well as comparisons to similar supplements that the general public are more familiar with. The goal was to publish an accredited article that provided healthcare professionals with detailed information about herbal supplements commonly used in Hispanic communities that are not well known outside of these communities, to better help healthcare professionals understand their potential effects.
My duties included
Reporting back to my supervisor on supplement availability in these communities and overall supplement trends (what is commonly found, in what form are the supplements taken, etc.)
CONCLUSION
My research coordinator, Dr. Foote, presented our findings at the 2014 Colorado WIC State Meeting on October 25th at the Denver Marriott Tech Center.
We are now working on publishing our findings with recommendations in an accredited journal.
