Once I began my dietetic education, I sought out opportunities to get involved in the nutrition community. The first major contribution I made was editing the newsletters for the Colorado Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and becoming a member of the board Fall 2012 - Summer 2014. Both my teamwork and leadership skills became evident during the editing process, as I worked very closely with the board of directors to get the newsletters out to our members, which required constant communication and flexibility. This self-directed position required both creativity and attention to detail. Developing deadlines, assigning topics, and delegating throughout the process ensured that the final publication informed readers on Colorado events and accomplishments within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Being a part of this organization has opened my eyes to the ins and outs of this profession and has made me realize just how important it is to get involved and advocate for our profession.
